Ray Cicia homered for the Gaels. & BOB KUZMA'S strong two-hit pitching led Harding over Stamford 5-0, snapping the Black Knights' 25-game win streak. & Fairfield Prep nipped Ludlowe 3-2 as JIM FLYNN spaced three hits for the win and drove in the winning run. Joe Dondero had two hits in the loss. & JACK KAVULICH'S grand slam and Maitland McNamara's RBI double lifted Ludlowe over Norwalk 5-3. & Bassick grad BOB ALLARD pitched Lafayette over Army 4-2. & BILL POWLEY and Henry Roetzal won the National Duckpin Bowling Congress doubles championship.

BOB SOLTISIAK pitched a five-hitter and Russell Hayden singled in Mike Giannettino as Bullard-Havens snapped Milford's five-game win streak 2-1. Bob Schock pitched well in defeat with a three-hit, 12-strikeout effort. & Lefty JIM LEONETTI allowed five hits and Harold LaChioma, John Giampaolo, Mike Bulkin, Tom Boiano and Frank Sperry supplied the offense in Central's 7-1 win over Ludlowe. Ron Franzese starred defensively in the outfield. & LOU HORNER'S two-hit, 14-strikeout pitching and the hitting of John Hajus (three hits) and Bob Kuhar (two hits, three RBI) powered Stratford over Milford 9-0. JOE FAHEY had four hits, including an RBI single that scored John Delaney in the last of the eighth, and was the winner in relief, as Fairfield Prep edged St. Joseph 8-7. Stan Norman added a long two-run homer and Tom Lyddy and Drew Czulewicz two RBI apiece. Ralph Vittorio knocked in two runs and Chuck Schultz one for the Cadets. & CHIP NIHOFF pitched a four-hitter with seven strikeouts and John Martino had an RBI single in the first as Bullard-Havens nipped Immaculate 2-1. Carmen Lepore scored what proved to be the winning run in the second on a fielder's choice. & Masuk blanked Brookfield 9-0 behind the three-hit, 13-strikeout pitching of TODD FRITZ. John D'Ostillio had two hits and an RBI while Lloyd and Barry Matey, Larry Zito and Joe Longo added RBI. & DAVE BAYE pitched a four-hitter with 14 strikeouts and drove in two runs with a triple to lead Notre Dame of Bridgeport over Bunnell 9-0. Despite giving up 10 hits, including a two-run homer by Van Belcher, Tony Gustitus was the winner with 10 strikeouts. Bob Alvarez (two-run homer) added three hits. Freshman outfielder Vincent Rodriguez had four hits for the Lions. & Junior TOM WILLIAMS pitched a three-hitter and had a two-run single in Bunnell's 11-4 win over Notre Dame. Jack Castelot tripled and doubled in two runs and Bill Mudre and Chris Mazzadra singled in runs. Senior righty MIKE BENNETT surrendered only three hits and did not allow an earned run as Fairfield Prep avenged last year's Class LL title game loss to Notre Dame of West Haven 8-2. Brothers Rob (three-run triple) and Chris (three hits, including a solo HR) Rotundo led the offense. & TODD DEFELICE had a pair of two-run doubles and winning pitcher Scott Osborne, Joe Costanzo and Tony Garitta had two hits each in Foran's 11-4 win over Bunnell. Luis Cuevas had three hits and Craig Bruno and Mike Tackas two hits and an RBI apiece in defeat. & Junior lefty GREGG MCCARTHY shackled Warde on two hits in Central's 3-1 victory. Andre Lancaster and Marcus Laracuente drew bases-loaded walks and Larry Ferraro had an RBI bunt single. Spezzano, Leana Abare, Beth Taterosian and Kelly Byiteck combined for eight hits. & LISA RECCHIA spaced four hits and her batterymate Karen Soter drove in two runs as Notre Dame nipped Law 3-2. Elaine Amundsen doubled in a Law run. & Winning pitcher LESLIE BROOKS and Lisa Van Leuwen had three hits and Elaine Gratriz four to lead Trumbull over Stamford Catholic 14-2.

EILEEN RICHETELLI of Milford qualified first on the opening day of the Phillips 66 National Diving Championship at Miami of Ohio University in Oxford. Richetelli had 467.73 points after 10 dives. & MIKE CARINO had two hits and three RBI, Rob Grabowski (one RBI) and Steve Zogby two hits apiece as Bunnell outlasted Notre Dame-Fairfield 10-8. Glen Ponganis was the winner with relief help from Jay Generous. Losing pitcher Jason Werthman had two hits and an RBI. & DAVE KOSC'S bases-loaded bunt with two outs in the last of the seventh gave Stratford a 8-7 win over Brookfield. Shane Gallagher had two hits and Jarod Mahon was the winner in relief. & Winning pitcher COREY SOMMERVILLE had a two-run double and Mike Fenn two hits and two RBI in Shelton's 7-2 win over Notre Dame of West Haven. & Fairfield Prep beat Guilford 11-4 as SCOTT ANDERSON had three hits and two RBI, Ryan Utzler two hits and as many RBI and John Moore three hits in support of Eric Asen's pitching. & JON HUDSON had three RBI and Dustin Galemba and Mike Nelson two hits and Ken Uliano two RBI to lead Fairfield over Ridgefield 9-5. Jim Capparosa was the winner. & In softball action LINDA GOODMAN had a three-run home run and winning pitcher Melanie Kascak two hits as St. Joseph nipped Westhill 5-4. & Lauralton Hall bested Law 8-5 as KRISTINE SHEK was the winner on the mound and helped her own cause with two triples and three RBIs. Jen Sanchez and catcher Rachel Ucci tripled in runs. Kate Hanson starred in the loss with a two-run triple and an RBI single.
