In high school basketball coach GEORGE BISACCA S Fairfield Prep team beat Bullard-Havens 68-47 as HENRY ROJAS scored 22 points while Ken Lisi, Jim Keane and Charley Cassano combined for another 31. Bob Soltisiak had 14 and Dennis Russell 10 for Tech. & JIM KLOSEK (23), John Hajus (14) and Lou Horner (11) pushed Stratford over Bassick 52-33. Joe Buckley s 14 was tops in defeat. & Coach Bob Seirup s Ludlowe team downed Central 56-52 as HARRY HYRA scored 28 points, Dave Potts 10 and Dave Graham nine. Bob Felis had 21 and John Giampaolo and Joe Yasinski a combined 22 for the Hilltoppers. & Harding used the play of DICK PANUCZAK (22), Dick Ripke (18) and Nate Dennis (12) to pin a 69-67 overtime loss on Milford. Jerry Mason had 20, Bill Clark and Jack Katrick 11 each and Dick Downey 10 for the Indians. & Harding then lost to Stamford 66-52 despite Ripke s 19 and Jack Duback s 18. The Black Knights were led by LEN MAZUREK (22), Chick Clark (15) and Romas Stadalinskas (11). & Bridgeport beat CCNY 71-61 in college action as JACK LIGGINS scored 26 and Fairleigh Dickinson 80-65 behind ERNIE AMARAL S 25. & Coach Lou Saccone s Bridgeport freshmen beat Yale 83-69 with DICK WHITCOMB scoring 29 points, Bob Liptak 19 and Dick Dohn 15. & Fairfield defeated New Britain Teachers 64-54 as BOB GERWIEN joined Joe Kehoe as the only 1,000-point scorers in school history. & Ed Conlin had 27 points and 32 rebounds in Fordham s

70-65 win over UConn with ART QUIMBY, the nation s leading rebounder, recording nine points and 16 rebounds in defeat. & BUTCH BENEDETTO scored 19 points, Babe Cabral nine and Joe Troiano eight as North End nipped Bristol 46-44 in Boys Club State League action. Notre Dame defeated Bassick 90-73 as DAVE BIKE scored 27 points and became only the fourth area player to score over 1,000 career points. He joined Central s Porky Vieira, Harding s Jack Kvancz and Fairfield Prep s Jim Lyddy. & RODOCK COX scored 18 points, Bike 16 and Reggie Marinaccio 14 as Notre Dame routed rival Fairfield Prep 65-33 before a crowd of 1,500 at the ND gym. Tom Lyddy s 10 led Prep. & BRUCE BERNHARD scored 23 points, Rusty Helgren 22 and Brian Silvestro 19 as Warde dealt cross-town rival Ludlowe a 77-58 loss. Gary Klahr had 21 in defeat. & TOM SANDERS scored 16 points, Len Scalzi 13 and Otis Paramore 11 to help Harding over Bullard-Havens 62-52. Vin Hrynewski had 16 and Chip Nihoff 15 in defeat. & PETE RAUSCHER scored 20 points, including two free throws in the final seconds, as Milford got by Central 59-57. Larry Anderson added 18 and Andy Fogler some clutch free throw shooting. Stan Johnson had 19, Gary Howard 17 and John Donoghue 15 for the losers. & GEORGE LEFKOWSKI scored 28 points and Ernie Lazaro 13 to lift Bunnell past Stratford 70-53. Bill Kluytenaar had 19 points and Joe Ganino 12 for the Crusaders. & On the college level the efforts of PAT BURKE (22), Mike Branch (21) and Bill Pritz (19) powered Fairfield over Canisius 84-67. & JOE MANDY scored 22 points, Renee Machado 18 while Bill O Dowd and Bill Gerner added a combined 34 as Bridgeport broke an eight-game losing streak by beating Southern Connecticut 82-78. Ralph Buccini had 22 and Walt Zaleski 21 for the Owls. & New Haven outscored New York Tech 102-86 as GARY LIBERATORE scored 55 points, hitting 21 of his 34 field goal tries.

In high school basketball Harding handed Fairfield Prep a 75-62 loss as CEDRIC CANON scored 26 points, Aldo Samuel 21, Mike McKay 12 and Wes Matthews eight. Dave Liptak and Crandall Chestnut had 17 apiece for the Jesuits. & Central outscored Bassick 100-95 behind the offense of KEN SMALL (23), Bucky Walden (18) and Mike Caple (17). Kevin Bohannon had 24 and Billy Colson 20 for the Lions. & BILL BRANDON had 18 points, including a 40-footer with two seconds left, as Stratford nipped Kolbe 59-58. George Belle s 20 topped the winners while Gene Cauthen had 15 and Mike Casey 14 for the Friars. & GARY FENN scored 20 points and Rick Charney 18 as Milford beat Bunnell 73-52. Dave Miller had 12 in defeat. & Law got the better of Ansonia 67-62 as Dan Shea had 31 and DOUG ROMATZICK 26. Bob Choszyck (12) and John Uhlig (10) topped the Chargers. & Bob Dulin scored 20 points, Randy Hartshorn 13 and George Beningo 11 and GLEN FOSTER hit a 30-footer at the buzzer as Foran edged Notre Dame of West Haven 72-70. & College action saw Manhattan beat Fairfield 86-79 for third place in the Madison Square Garden Classic behind George Bucci s 25 points. RAY KELLY and Mark Young had 19 points apiece and Ralph Rehn 17 for the Stags. & Bridgeport nipped Springfield 79-78 as RICK DICICCO scored 21 points and Lee Hollerbach and Phil Nastu a combined 36. & Sacred Heart was outscored by Siena 115-108 despite 34 from TONY TRIMBOLI and Carl Winfree s 29. & UConn beat Maine 100-90 in overtime as Lee Otis Wilson scored 26 points and TONY HANSON 25. & Housatonic CC defeated the Sacred Heart freshmen 111-83 as CHUCK CAPLE (20), Joe Holman (18), Steve Bolden (18), Len Morales (17) and Bob Jenkins (14) showed the way. & Former Raybestos Brakettes standout SIS KING was voted into the National ASA Hall of Fame while Stratford s JOE BARBER was re-elected ASA national president.

In high school basketball coach Mike Abraham s Warde team upset Stamford 53-52 as CARY HERER scored 26 points, including two free throws after time had expired, and Dave Danko added 12. Mark Stevens had 18, Moochie Cobb 12 and Derrick Coleman 10 for the Black Knights. & Central also pulled off an upset by handing St. Joseph an 86-80 loss behind the play of RICKY WRIGHT (30), Roshean Bird (23) and Darrin Robinson (10). Mike Feaster scored 23 points, Sheldon Cosby 17, Chris Watts 15 and Al Tolomeo 12 in defeat. & Foran handed Law an 82-47 drubbing as MIKE STAVESKI scored 30 points and Dave Broggi 11. Kevin Phillips led Law with 18. & Norwalk handed Trumbull a 79-64 defeat with EMMETT LEWIS (35) and Eric Peterson (33) showing the way. Glen Colello had 17, Bob Blozzon 14 and Tim Williams 12 for the Eagles. & In girls high school games, ELLEN GRASSO scored 21 points while Alecia Whalen (14 rebounds), Michelle Dankulich, Karen Yocis and Karen Soter combined for 40 more as Notre Dame of Fairfield defeated Harding 67-44. & MARISA KULIS had 13 points and 14 rebounds and JoElle LePardo and Jen Luzietti 14 points apiece as fifth-rated St. Joseph handed eighth-rated Masuk a 53-46 loss. Jill Guariglia had 11 points and Lore Webster 10 in defeat.

In high school basketball RICHARD MARTIN scored 20 points, including a slam dunk with three seconds, left and Keith Bush added 20 more to give Harding a 50-48 win over Westhill despite the efforts of Franklin DeVeaux (21) and Jamar Dunmore (13). & MATT RILEY had 26 points and Bobby Jones and Marques Lofton a combined 46 in Bassick s 103-85 win over Danbury. & Fairfield used the scoring of MATT MORGAN (21), Ryan Van Alstyne (14) and Mike Limatola to pin a 72-48 loss on Ridgefield. & JIM MCNIFF scored 20 points and Emilio Savone 14 as Fairfield Prep edged Amity 69-67 despite Eric Pepe s 22 points. & EUGENE (Q) DAVIS had 25 points (nine assists) and Dwayne Peel 24 points (15 rebounds) as Kolbe Cathedral handed Notre Dame-Fairfield its first CCIAC loss in 10 games 84-80. Sly McIntosh had 30, Rob DeFilippo 16 and Jeff Stone 14 in defeat. & KYLE PHILLIPS scored 29 points, including a 15-footer with 20 seconds left, and Jay Wetherwell nine points in Law s 58-57 win over Foran. Jason Sheets had 22 and Mark Mahon 17 for the Lions. & BOB FOX S 14 points helped Masuk nip Pomperaug 48-47. & BOB GENEROUS had 13 points, Fairfax 14 and Joe Kullberg, Nakiea Miller and Calzone a combined 30 in Bunnell s 72-62 decision over Stratford. Mark DeFranco (23) and Tim Senft (14) topped the losers. & In the FCIAC girls quarterfinals Central ousted Stamford 49-21 and extended its win streak to 48 games as junior forward PAULA MOORE had 13 points (10 rebounds, nine assists) and junior guard Audra Spremullo 12 points (11 steals). & Senior center CAROLYN CENTER had 19 points (12 rebounds) and Kristin Ryan 12 as Staples beat Greenwich 51-31. & Wilton ousted Fairfield 33-25 as CANDY BENSON had 19 points and Kristy Lindberg 12. Molly McHugh s 10 led the losers. n
