I would like to emulate the good clergyman by making a modest proposal of my own regarding the Steel Point development site, a project that seems to be going absolutely nowhere for the last, what, 20 years, and in no big hurry either.
Why doesn't the mayor of Bridgeport get in touch with the state and have them contact the tribe that runs the Foxwoods casino and offer them to come in and develop Steel Point as a gambling, amusement, hotel, etc., center. I am almost certain they would seriously entertain the idea since the location would be absolutely ideal for such a project.
As far as commercial stores and condos, the area is already overbuilt and if we get any more retail outlets, it only reduces the take per store, so no smart-headed retailer is going to sign on to something that isn't going to have a reasonable chance of success.
