If you want to make a change from being a "jeans and a tee-shirt" girl to a more sophisticated style, opt for longer skirts that show just the right amount of skin.
Small details such as florals or polka dots can help make an outfit pop even more.
Match one of these cute skirts with light pastels for a perfect blend of colors.
"I love matching pastel V-neck sweaters with white skirts because it really shows off my tan, and makes me feel that much closer to summer," says Christina Fontana, a senior at Shelton High School.
The sophisticated look is not the only trend making an appearance this year. The "All-American girl" is making a comeback as well.
There are new ways to wear red, white and blue without looking like you are advertising Independence Day.
Pair a striped red and white wide strap tank with dark blue jeans and finish it off with a thick belt cinched at the waist. Adding a pair of fashionable wedged heels will make any outfit look complete. Just like the skirts mentioned before, adding some design to your shoes can immediately draw attention from every angle!
Stores such as Aldo, Bakers, and Target have an endless variety of adorable shoes and heels that can match any style.
Let's not forget —
Hues of black, gray, blue, and deep reds look great on every body type. Darker colors hide unwanted curves and create the illusion of a slim and sleek body.
All of these styles can be finished with a bang with the addition of flashy jewelry, such as dangling earrings and large stoned rings.
"I like complimenting big necklaces to scoop necks so I have an added dimension to a simple outfit," says Mary Alice Limperopulos, a junior of Fairfield at Lauralton Hall in Milford. Girls aren't the only ones savvy on the new fashion trends coming and going. Boys are leaning toward classier designer brands such as Armani, Calvin Klein, and Ralph Lauren to make their presence known.
Some like to follow the footsteps of their favorite celebrities with their upscale garments. "I plan to start wearing Armani and polos like Greeny and Golic from 'Mike and Mike in the Morning'," says Eric Strouse, a senior at Shelton High School.
Others are straying from the overused brands of Hollister, Abercrombie, and American Eagle in exchange for a more individualized style.
Button-up shirts and nice jeans that actually aren't ripped are becoming increasingly popular among teenage boys. "Because I'm going off to college next year, I'm trying to change my style to become more mature. I'm starting to shop at stores that have nicer clothes that will help make me look more like an individual," says Stephen Chueka, a senior of Stratford at Bunnell High School. Springtime is all about trying new things and exploring different options. Whether you are a girl or a boy or dress preppy or punk, the options are endless.
Don't settle with "normal" this season — be yourself and well spring into style!
