The Seaside Park Arts Festival, a Bridgeport art and music event, is scheduled for May 24 from noon to 5 p.m. at the park's West Beach, which is at the entrance at the foot of Park Avenue. The rain date is May 25. The festival will include live music; a "Where's Waldo" Scavenger Hunt; with prizes; an oil-drum painting workshop; a drumming circle hosted by the Gathering of the Vibes; educational programs; various children's activities; and displays by area artists and community organizations. What better way is there to spend Memorial Day Weekend than by bringing your family and friends to the beach for art and music?'' asked Melissa A. Bernstein, Black Rock Art Center general manager. "I believe this will be the beginning of a new annual tradition that really puts Bridgeport on the map".
Seaside Park Arts Festival musical artists will include Bridgeport's own St. Bernadette and 930 Moon, as well as Simple Pleasure and Peter Edwards. The musical stage performances are being presented throughout the afternoon, while the Gathering of the Vibes drum circle will run until 8 p.m.
Thirty-two trash drum artworks will be deployed in Seaside Park a week prior to the arts festival, under the guidance of Jack Lardis, founder of Oil Drum Art, Inc., which transforms 55-gallon oil drums for public use by creating planters, trash drums and sculptural artworks.
