Digital Joystick: Video Game News & Views

(Jacob Metcalf): Multimedia developer, reviewer

My name is Jacob Metcalf and I am an avid old school video game hipster nerd who lives in Bremerton Washington. For my day job I am a multimedia developer but at night I review videogames for The Stranger and my own website that I have run for almost five years. I attended and graduated from the Art Institute of Seattle with a degree in computer animation/visual design.

I was a contributing author to the book PSP Hacks : Tips & Tools for Your MobileGaming and Entertainment Handheld and have been a guest on the Chris Pirillo show. My site focuses on videogames, and movies from a nerd cultural perspective.

I also was an exchange student to Japan and can speak conversational Japanese.

I've lived in Western Washington for over 12 years and I love it here.

I believe that videogames are a lasting major influence in our culture that is enjoyed by millions of people all over the country. The videogame industry continues to be larger than Hollywood and there are several major companies and game developers right here in western Washington.

I have been playing videogames for over twenty-five years and I could beat Donkey Kong on Colecovision before I knew how to write cursive. The "joystick generation" that grew up with Atari and Nintendo is now in their 40s and will be a fixture of the media market in the 21st century.
