HARTFORD (AP) -- A Stratford man faces sentencing after he was convicted of attempted murder for shooting at police officers at a Bridgeport gas station in 2007.

John W. Bell Jr. is scheduled to be sentenced Monday in federal court in Hartford. He faces up to 30 years in prison.

A jury convicted Bell last year after only two hours of deliberations.

Prosecutors say Bell tried to kill Trumbull Police Officer Scott Murray and Detective Kevin Hammel during the shootout, which happened during a gambling raid in

October.

The jury acquitted Bell of another attempted murder charge involving Hammel.

Bell was shot in the right arm and left wrist during the shootout with members of the FBI's Safe Streets Task Force.

Murray and other task force members were not injured.

Bell has said he thought he was being robbed at the time.
